Hamilton Music sweeps Music-in-the-Park festival!

Congratulations to Symphonic Band, Symphonic Orchestra and Senior Jazz musicians for their FIRST place finishes in their respective divisions at the Music-in-the-Park festival in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. In addition to winning top honors, each ensemble also won a Superior rating and Best Overall for their respective performances. Additionally, Symphonic Orchestra received a perfect score -- the only one earned at the festival -- for their performance.

Congratulations to all of the musicians, and Directors Rowe, Mandojana, and Takano.

And special thanks to Principal Carter and his family for traveling to Idaho to support the HIMS musicians!

Music in the Park Festival

On May 21st, 80 HIMS instrumental music students and 22 chaperones will travel to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to participate in the Music in the Park Festival. We are pleased to announce that Principal Carter and his family will also join us on the trip – thank you, Mr. Carter!

Auditions for Senior Jazz

Auditions for Senior Jazz will begin on Monday, May 10th and continue through Wednesday, May 19th. Auditions will be held with Mr. Rowe after school in the band room at HIMS.

Please contact the HIMS office at 252-5810 to schedule a time slot for your student.

Auditions will last approximately 15 minutes. Students should have a prepared piece that demonstrates his/her current ability and be prepared to play any of the 12 major scales.

Senior Jazz plays at Barnes & Noble

Hamilton's Senior Jazz band will be playing at the University Village Barnes & Noble from 7-8 p.m. on Wed., May 5th to kick off Fomahi's bookfair!

Please join us to support our musicians and pick up some reading material or gifts while you're there! A percentage of net sales at any Barnes & Noble (including online sales, use Bookfair ID #10143451) will go to FOMAHI if you present the attached voucher when you check out during the week of May 5 - 12.

The next Fomahi meeting will be Monday, May 10th. We will meet in the band room at Hamilton (at Lincoln) from 7 - 8:30 p.m.

Barnes & Noble is sponsoring a Bookfair to support FOMAHI May 5th through May 12th. Purchases made that week at any Barnes & Noble in the country or online are eligible for the fundraiser. Hamilton International Middle School is auditioning/interviewing band students for the 2010-11 school year from May 10th to the 19th. These will take place in the band room (Room C-102) at Lincoln H.S. (4400 Interlake Ave. N) the current location of HIMS.

Orchestra Auditions for Incoming Students 2010-11

Hamilton International Middle School will be holding auditions for incoming orchestra students. Auditions will be held in the orchestra room (C-104), April 26th-30th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Students who have experience playing a string instrument are encouraged to contact Hamilton Orchestra and Choir Director Naomi Mandojana at nmmandojana@seattleschools.org or 252-5885 to schedule an audition.

A heartfelt thanks to all who participated in Musicathon 2010. Our music teachers were overwhelmed by your amazing support for our instrumental music and choir programs. The funds raised will help pay for festival fees, instrument purchases and repairs, sheet music, financial assistance, substitute fees and more.
