University of Washington Band Festival on Monday

On Monday, January 30 the Concert and Symphonic Bands will attend the University of Washington Pacific Northwest Band Festival.

The Festival is a non-competitive event featuring 27 middle and high school bands from throughout the Pacific Northwest. Each band performs and is briefly coached by an internationally recognized clinician.

PLEASE NOTE that all students must make private arrangements to be at University of Washington, Meany Hall at 7:30am!  Drop-off at the flagpole circular driveway on UW campus (enter UW at 17th Ave. NE entrance and follow to the end of the road).  FOMAHI parent volunteers will sign-in students and escort to Meany Hall.

Yellow bus transportation will be provided for return to school (1:30 pick-up from UW and 2:15 drop-off at HIMS). Students will miss all classes on Monday.

Students must:

  • Wear concert attire
  • Bring a sack lunch.
  • Clearly put name and contact information on all instruments/cases

It's Musicathon Day!

FOMAHI is proud to announce our Third Annual Musicathon!

The Musicathon is our biggest fundraising event of the year and raises the money necessary to support our great music program.  Funds from the Musicathon provide the basics—like sheet music and instruments—for our young musicians.

How Does the Musicathon Work?

We need every student's help to provide 12 hours of music.  Music students solicit sponsoring pledges from friends, family and neighbors. Students are not required to get pledges, but we hope most will do so.  Students who turn in pledges of at least $25.00 are eligible to receive gift certificates of their choice from Target, Starbucks, University Book Store and ITunes.  The rewards for our student musicians are listed below. Students may also decline the gift certificate and donate all of their pledge funds to the music program.  Pledge forms and collection envelopes were handed out to students on January 6 and are due back on the day of the Musicathon.

$25 pledge total = $5 gift certificate

$50 pledge total = $10 gift certificate

$75 pledge total = $15 gift certificate

$100 pledge total = $20 gift certificate

$150 pledge total = $30 gift certificate

$200 pledge total = $40 gift certificate, etc.

Important Information for Parents

Parents, we need your support!  Please help your student obtain pledges and figure out a time that they can play music after school on January 19. We need student musicians to play at HIMS from 4:25p.m.-7p.m. The teachers have time sheets posted in their rooms where students can sign up in 30-minute time slots to play. Students may also choose to take part in our Young Musicians Concert, which also takes place in the Hamilton Commons from 7-8 p.m. (sign up required).

2:25 AM – 4:30 PM Junior Jazz rehearsal

4:30 PM – 7:00 PM Music rooms: combos and small groups perform
