Concert Orchestra

This course requires two years of instrument study and an audition. Students in this group are at an advanced level of instrumental technique and reading proficiency (demonstrating shifting and developing vibrato). Members of the Concert Orchestra show consistent responsibility in class preparedness and respect. This group may participate in various performances outside of school in addition to the Fall and Spring concerts.

Symphony Orchestra

Students passing the requirements for this class will demonstrate the highest level of technical ability and musicianship. At least three years of study on a chosen instrument is required as well as an audition. Students are expected to sight-read fluidly, play in upper positions, and use vibrato. The music learned will demand greater knowledge with regards to intonation and range, rhythms, key signatures, time signatures, tempo, dynamics, and styles. Also, the students in Symphony Orchestra are expected to show a high level of discipline and maturity. This class will keep a busy performance schedule in and out of school at concerts and festivals throughout the year. Therefore, each student is expected to commit to being prepared for all rehearsals and attend required performances.
